Description
Facilitated by Linda Baker – Owner of ADHD Done Differently
NEXT SESSION: Friday 23rd May 2025 – ONLINE (Via Zoom Platform) 9:00am – 4:30pm
This workshop is designed as an introductory overview for speech pathologists to learn about ADHD from a neurodiversity perspective.
You will:
- Gain an understanding of the importance of viewing ADHD through the lens of neurodiversity, including steps you can take to implement this into your daily practice.
- Discuss some of the structures, functions and neurotransmitter differences of the ADHD brain that are relevant to engagement and learning.
- Develop your knowledge of the epidemiology of ADHD, the ADHD neurotype and current research evidence into ADHD.
- Learn about what current research says which communication differences and challenges are commonly seen in the ADHD population.
- Develop an understanding of the importance of strengths-based social-community and individual supports and how to identify these in your paediatric ADHD population
- Hear lived experience and research evidence about family functioning in ADHD families and have strategies to support them
- Discuss the importance of working with (not against!) the ADHD brain and utilising strengths to support challenges.
This workshop is designed to be interactive and practical. After this workshop, you will have an understanding of the unique way the ADHD brain is designed (based on the current understanding!) and how we, as speech pathologists can educate, inform, advocate for and work towards self-advocacy WITH the paediatric ADHD population.
